Striped Bass are a migratory species native to the Atlantic coast, but they have been successfully introduced into many freshwater impoundments like Lake Lanier. They are known for their size, strength, and schooling behavior, often congregating in large numbers, especially during feeding frenzies. Locating these schools is key to a successful outing. They typically inhabit the deeper sections of the lake, particularly during the warmer months, seeking cooler water. When targeting Striped Bass, anglers often employ live bait, such as shad or herring, which is incredibly effective. Trolling with umbrella rigs or large spoons is another popular and productive method, covering more water to find active fish. Artificial lures that mimic baitfish, like bucktail jigs and swimbaits, also produce well, especially when cast near structure or in areas where baitfish are being pushed to the surface.
